Dear All,
First, my thanks to Rolf for his elegant and insightful posts. To comment on his last post would be a concurring opinion, so I will leave it at thanks.
Second, I must disagree mildly with Carlos. Abduction is a phenomenon that involves more than analogy. There are reasons that many people in philosophy, in science, and philosophy of science have done so much work on abduction. While I disagree with many of the mistaken notions and comments on abduction by those who have not given this phenomenon the thought it deserves, the issue of abduction is quite significant.
This involves more than “canonic interpretation of the obligatory references.” Thinking again also involve thinking through the issues.
Yours,
Ken
