The Department of Industrial Design at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Suzhou, China offers positions at Lecturer (in the British and Chinese sense) and Associate Professor level. Applicants for these positions should have expertise in one or more of the four following areas:
• Engineering Mechanics, Materials, Thermodynamics
• Ethnology, Cultural Theory & Visual Culture
• Service Design & Interaction Design
• Sustainable Design, Business Strategy & Design
Successful applicants will have, or expect shortly to receive, a PhD. Applicants should have good teaching experience and be able to produce high quality research. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor should also be able to demonstrate an international research profile in their fields and a successful record of research funding.
The Department of Industrial Design
The Department of Industrial Design of XJTLU was established in 2013 and is growing rapidly. It focuses on human-centered products, systems designs that enable people to live desirable futures. The department educates creative industrial designers who understand China’s ongoing cultural, social, and economical transformation. The department offers an interdisciplinary and dynamic working environment that encourages initiative and leadership.
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University
XJTLU is a young and independent university that offers dual UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese Ministry of Education (XJTLU) accredited undergraduate degrees. It is known as the foremost sino-anglo university in China. XJTLU embraces a research-led vision and invests in research development and the expansion of PhD, Master’s, and international student numbers. Being an international university, all programs are delivered in English.
Suzhou
XJTLU is based in Suzhou, which is one of China’s main manufacturing bases for higtech products. Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is an economic growth zone in which nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies are active. There are many opportunities for collaboration with these companies. Suzhou is also a famous tourist destination and provides an excellent quality of life. It is located in the Yangtze River Delta and is only 25 minutes away from Shanghai by train.
Renummeration
The salary range for the positions is 23,850 – 29,222 RMB/month (Lecturer), and 29,664 – 40,497 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday” of up to three years, depending on nationality, residence and personal circumstances.
