Assistant Professor, Graphic Design, University of Texas at Austin
The Design Division of the Department of Art and Art History at the
University of Texas at Austin seeks applications for a tenure-track
assistant professor position in graphic design with an anticipated start
date of fall 2015. The University of Texas is a flagship, tier-one research
university located in Austin, Texas, a city renowned for its vibrant
cultural life and creative industries.
The assistant professor will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
design, ranging from introductory courses on design principles and
techniques, to advanced graduate studio courses focusing on methodology and
concept development. A typical teaching load is 2/2, contingent on an
active research agenda. The assistant professor is expected to be a skilled
practitioner and critically engaged thinker who contributes significantly
to the field through design research/creative activity disseminated in
venues central to the discipline. Faculty in the design division are also
expected to participate in committee work and actively contribute to the
development and governance of the program, department, and college. Salary
is commensurate with experience.
Required qualifications: Applicants must hold the MFA, M.Des., MAD,
M.Graph., or comparable terminal degree and have a record of professional
achievement in graphic design, interaction design, or a related field.
Candidates should have prior teaching experience, preferably at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels, and expertise in one or more of the
following areas: typography; interaction design; accessibility;
programming/processing; image-making; and/or design strategy and
entrepreneurship.
