The School of Art and Design at East Carolina University is the largest art school in North Carolina and one of the largest in the Southeast. The School has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1962. The School has more than 40 faculty and 600 students across five degree programs with specializations in art education, art history, animation/interactive design, cinematic arts and media production, ceramics, graphic design, illustration, metal design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textile design. The School also houses a comprehensive wood shop and a new shape lab for exploring 3D printing and related technologies. The School has a strong history of community outreach and involvement ranging from after-school art programs to work with the University of North Carolina's Coastal Studies Institute.
The School of Art and Design is searching to fill the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professorship. The faculty member who serves in this position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their discipline. This faculty member will also provide inspiration for students and faculty and assist in activities that enrich interdisciplinary teaching, research, and creative activity as well as participating in lectures, programs and/or exhibitions in the University community and in the region. In addition to salary and benefits, this position includes funds from an endowment for graduate assistants, travel, and related expenses each year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree in their discipline or related field (MFA) or professional equivalent in studio art, design, decorative arts, art history, or art education
Evidence of substantial research and/or creative activity at the national and international levels
Experience and demonstrated leadership in the arts and/or design with an exceptional record of achievement in their discipline
Interest in interdisciplinary learning, making, and/or scholarship
Interest in community engagement with art and/or design at local and national levels
Preferred Education and Experience:
Candidates will have demonstrated expertise and/or interest in one or more of the following:
Ability to collaborate with University disciplines beyond the fine arts, particularly the sciences
Familiarity with/experience in 3D modeling and related technologies (e.g. CNC router, laser cutter, 3D printer, etc.)
Interest in professional and/or university involvement, particularly collaborative or interdisciplinary projects
Interest in multi-cultural and/or cross-disciplinary visual culture
