Dear Ken and DesignX group.
I think DesignX is a positive initiative and i agree that things need to develop slowly and sometimes it's about the rethinking and resituating and further development of old thoughts. Actually that's it most of the time. So i don't bother so much about wine being old. Sometimes its a good thing. I still think it is important to coordinate such an initiativ in a dialogue with other similar initiatives that have been there for a while.
It seems to me that the DesignX agenda is ~ 80% overlapping with the agenda of the Systemic Design Network. The main difference might be that in Systemic Design, the systemic perspectives are seen as overarching to the other themes you mentioned: Strategic design, transformative design, change design, co-design, participatory design, and cross-disciplinary design, etc. Though the Systemic Design Network is in its making and still is informal and in the process of being defined further I think I talk for most of the involved and interested people in the network that a systemic perspective is regarded as the umbrella, the glue and the in-between of the other more specialised approaches and perspectives. This provides an over-arching perspective and the means, tools and techniques to interrelate and orchestrate the others.
It would to my mind be very interesting to discuss how these initiatives relate to each other. E.g. we would very much appreciate the DesignX people to join us at our next symposium, (RSD4) in autumn 2015.
Meanwhile here is some information on upcoming activities in the Systemic Design Network (www.systemic-design.net)
- We are now only days away from launching two special issues on systemic design in Formakademisk.org. Stay tuned!
- The proceedings of the third systemic design symposium RSD3 will be published online hopefully in February.
- The announcement of the fourth Symposium (RSD4) in 2015 will come very soon.
Best wishes
