medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All
Nearing completion of Norfolk for TASC (c. 3000 records), I've two queries:
1. Can anyone kindly point me to literature on 'the Brown Rood' as distinct from the High Rood?
2. There's a single, late case of devotion to 'St Rodiburt'. It seems sensible to consider that the name derives from Rodbeorht, and Robert of Bury St Edmunds is geographically in the wings, so to speak. I've yet to check how his name is treated in the Bury records and by William Worcestre, but isn't the threshold of the thirteenth century rather late for the Old English form to have stuck?
Happy Christmas far and near!
Graham
