Now you mention issues with GP systems we have had a recent problem with
SystemOne changing the units in which we report NTproBNP but without
changing the reference range or our interpretative comment. The GP
contacted us since she thought it all looked rather odd on their newly
installed system. Since neither GPs, CCG or lab were aware of what
SystemOne were doing there is room for a significant clinical risk.
SystemOne have replied that their system can only accept one type of
unit for this analyte - sounds odd to me. We still await info from them
on anything else they are changing.
Are there any IT governance guidelines about this?
best wishes

Subject: Reporting previous results
We have a function in our LIMS (Winpath) that allows the reporting of
"Previous result" items where a rejection rule has been applied to a
test. We report these on a very regular basis to our hospital RDB and to
GPs. A recent audit has identified serious issues with the way GP
systems handle these items. Are any other laboratories reporting
previous result items and if so have they reviewed how they are handled
by GP systems? Also interested to hear from anyone who has stopped
reporting them and how this went down with GPs.
Thanks in advance,
Stuart
