Dear All,
Alexis Rohou (from Niko Grigorieff's group) has made ctffind4: a much
faster variant of ctffind3. See Niko's pages for more details and
downloads: http://grigoriefflab.janelia.org/ctf
We have observed ctffind4 to be much (10x?) faster than the older
ctffind3, and give better results in some cases. Visualization of the
.ctf files seems to be a bit more tricky. We play with low values of
--sigma_contrast or --white.
Alexis has done the new implementation in a nifty way, so that the
input/output can still be handled by RELION-1.3. On the RELION GUI, we
replace the old executable by:
"/lmb/home/tmartin/programs/ctffind-4.0.7-linux64/ctffind
--omp-num-threads 1 --old-school-input"
Or run from the command line using: --ctffind3_exe
"/lmb/home/tmartin/programs/ctffind-4.0.7-linux64/ctffind
--omp-num-threads 1 --old-school-input"
Note that it is crucial to position the "" around the executable and its
options.
A big thanks to Alexis for this fast new tool! Instead of calculating
CTF parameters overnight, we now do this over lunch. :-)
HTH,
Sjors
