Forwarding this on behalf of Peter, whose response didn't come through to the lists. My thanks Peter for your message as I think those who are questioning the boycott are genuinely concerned about the situation and being able to support and show solidarity with individual academics who are trying to question things in their own country and this and other responses I personally feel will help to clarify things for a lot of people.
Please all remember if a message has been forwarded you might want to hit 'reply-all' or your message may just go back to the person who forwarded the conversation, not to the whole list(s)
Please also note that although information about this petition has been put on the AinA Facebook page, it doesn't imply that everyone involved agrees. It would be good to see someone post information about the boycott itself, what it entails (and does not) and why it is important, as per the issues that network members have raised

Subject: Re: should/n't anthropologists boycott boycotts??
Hello, I was unable to post my reply. Could you please post it for me? Thanks, Peter
Dear Colleagues,
As anthropologists we all know the importance of field work to our understanding of social phenomena. Having worked in Palestine and seen with my own eyes the systemic injustice of the Israeli occupation, I support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS).
If at all possible, please visit Palestine and see for yourself the reality that our media do not show us. Read the works of such Jewish Israelis as Ilan Pappe, Gideon Levy, Miko Peled, Amira Hass, Eran Efrati, David Sheen, Avigail Abarbanel, Nourit Peled Elhanon, Howard Cohen and others who work to expose the truth and end the structural racism, dispossession, cruelty and violence, endured by Palestinians. These Israelis vocally support the Boycott, as the only way to push Israeli Government and society to reconsider their current coursen. These academics and journalists are under siege in their own society. Some have left or are considering leaving. Some live with death threats and at least one has a bodyguard. To support BDS is to support them and their right to dissent in their own society.
Anthropologist should focus on silenced voices and buried narratives, and they should stand for basic human rights and the equality of all people. That is what this Boycott is about.
Please inform yourselves before you choose to break BDS.
Sincerely,
Dr. Peter F. Cohen
