Just a reminder of the CFP for 'The Notion of [...] Explains Unfortunate Events' panel at the 2015 ASA meeting in Exeter in April
Panel abstract.
This panel invites paper givers to rework Evans-Pritchard's (1937) assertion about witchcraft amongst the Azande through ethnographically grounded papers exploring different conceptualisations and explanations of misfortune. Evans-Pritchard's statement provides us with a flexible trope through which we might explore contextual understandings of diverse subjects, such as, but by no means limited to, power, politics, religion, modernity, rationality and materiality. Papers might explore different tactics for engaging with the troubles of the world, including the role of anthropologists as activists, advocates, instigators or inter-disciplinary collaborators, as well as tracing ongoing epistemological twists and ontological turns within the discipline of anthropology.
Paper titles will simply fill in the blank with a single word or hyphenated term to provide a starting point. Imaginative use of the space is welcomed.
Please go to http://www.nomadit.co.uk/asa/asa2015/panels.php5?PanelID=3379 to propose a paper.
Looking forward to hearing from you
All the best
