It is somewhat fascinating (if not greatly disturbing as well) that academia can experience its own personal and private reality and not recognize this same process as only a model for the rest of the economic/market driven/ profit centered/ opportunism & exploitation / socially and politically brokered / licensed / credited (financially) vs accredited world around them. Strip all the pomp and it becomes barriers to entry and Return On Investments (ROI) and the actual dedication to "academic" discipline and integrity becomes marginalized. Paper chase begets paper (monetary) chase. The University system itself is breeding this core incentive and we have allowed the Universities to become corporatist leaders as long as they serve our own interests. Unfortunately the incipient Ponzi structure eventually can not support a market oriented academia on its own backing and finance, and the people in positions of power write more market publications lamenting the dire situation and its inhumane processes of inequality ...of course that "others" have perpetrated on society and the human condition at large.
Perhaps the "model" here should be a model that is made more inclusive as a public issue, rather than pretense and doctoral pomp as a private exclusive concern. Shouldn't the work have been offered to students in the first place as continuing the field experience within a discipline? Why is it outsourced except to say it is all about the financing and the marketing of departments needing to publish or perish; about high paid positions doing high class published lip service to migration and desolation in that "other" world. Now the wrong wording is used on what has been happening across the Universtity systems around the globe, and we have a personal crisis and an uproar from academics in Practice mode. Where have you all been for the last 2-3 decades? The "discipline" itself has become a market and there is scant concern for how finance has been a wrecking ball for the integrity of Anthropology. As long as we can call it action and applied..., no worry...it is funded and favored by the Universities that need to attract more of the same to keep the game liquid and solvent.
"Casualization of Labor?" Doesn't that translate to cheap labor and dribble down economics of the market? It is not clear that this is not just a lot of sour grapes from people that are propagating the market values of a standard of living over historic standards for a discipline that has lost its face.

from the ill-considered immediacies of the day-to-day to the paradigm that
