medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear George,
Disclaimer! I am relying on my (rather poor) memory here, but I seem
to recall that the standard list of subspecies of Sloth (as found in
Guillaume Peyraut's Summma) includes a sin that is called in Latin
pusillanimitas that, if I am not wrong, at least comes close to
cowardice.
As for the second question, I almost see a distinction written by
Aquinas on this: Queritur utrum peccatum et vitium vocabula idem
declarans sunt. As for the answer, I am sure that Aquinas would have
found some nice way of making a distinction, but to me it feels that
in (medieval) everyday usage they indeed mean the same.
Cheers (and hope to see you soon),
Jussi
