These conditions are something that medical simulations also try to alleviate when they mix, sites, patients, actors, props and automated devices. "Cognition in the Wild" as Dourish called that. Things are trickier still when the focus is on the future and the needed output are some novel systems, as is common in design. What would be the analogous "recommendations" in application to creative processes (in all their guises)?
Stanislav,
The automation paradox is something that has been the focus of much debate in some engineering circles, as you might have gathered from the article I posted a link to in my previous comment.
I think you are talking about Hutchins' theory of distributed cognition, which AFAIK he left underdeveloped, but Nersessian picked that up and developed it further.
I find Nersessian (Nancy J) more interesting, and undoubtedly much more prolific.
In regard to creative processes, a few references come to the top of my mind:
—Marvin Minsky, of course,
And though not related to practical application but for me priceless and always useful:
—Vilém Flusser, who might look a bit off the mark but if you look carefully into his essays on design you will see what I mean,
...and a great book titled "Digital and other virtualities" which has an essay on that very subject.
I myself wrote an essay related to this subject a few years ago, but it is in portuguese and it's not very good... but I think you'll be interested in the bibliography — I'll get back to you on this when I find it.
Best regards,
