This the major theme of my (perpetual) Ph D project!
The things I've published so far is mostly about design languages. A diverse group need some common language to express and explore proposals.
In your example both the process and design language will be different based on the facilitator's background. I believe, however, that few business people and educators have any specific training in co-design, so their choice of approach may be guided mostly by their personalty and personal experience. (The only exception is that everyone seems to know "brain storming", which is a well-reasearched and, unfortunatly, most improductive method) There is a lot a work ahead of us in this field!
Here are three, a bit overlapping, papers on co-design languages:

Sorry for the bad spelling. Lysdexia + sick-bed with ipad only.

Ps On who is practising this: my daytime job is organizing and leading fairly large co-design efforts.
Sent from an iPad and therefore probably a bit brief.

Who out there is practicing what we call "design facilitation" and are there different best practices/frameworks/components even within design facilitation?
