Dear List members
The Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen has a 3 year postdoctoral position available in the SWAMMIS project to work on subduction dynamics taking into account dehydration reactions and the effects of fluids on deformation in the system. I have appended a summary of the position below and further details, including application information, can be found at:
http://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/104201
Application deadline is 15th September 2014.
Please forward to anyone who might be interested and contact me for any further information.
Best regards,
Ritske Huismans

3 year Postdoctoral fellow in subduction dynamics
The Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen (www.uib.no/geo<http://www.uib.no/geo>) has (from 15st September, 2014) a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow in subduction dynamics within the project SWAMMIS funded by the Norwegian Science Foundation.
Project/work tasks
* We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to conduct research as part of a multidisciplinary project aimed at understanding the nature of metamorphic reactions in subduction zones and the role they play in triggering intraslab earthquakes. This postdoctoral fellow’s research will focus on the geodynamic components of the project, which include forward modelling of subduction zone dynamics, that takes into account dehydration reactions, metastable phases, and the effects of fluids on the deformation of the system. This work will be carried out in collaboration with seismological and petrological modellers, yielding comprehensive multidisciplinary constraints on metamorphic processes in subduction zone settings.
Qualifications and personal qualities
* You must have completed a doctoral degree or equivalent in quantitative earth science, or have submitted your doctoral thesis for evaluation before expiry of the application deadline. It is a requirement that the doctoral degree has been completed before the decision to appoint can be made.
* You must have relevant good skills in mathematics, programming and communication. Experience with code development in geodynamic modelling and a demonstrated interest in solid earth sciences are an advantage.
