Dear Colleagues,
Please consider submitting an abstract for session T6, Birth and Death of Supercontinents, at the GSA Annual Meeting 19-22 October, 2014 in Vancouver, BC. The submission deadline is Tuesday, July 29th (http://community.geosociety.org/gsa2014/science/sessions).
Remeber that deadline is 29th July.
Session description:
Earth's landmasses amalgamate altogether into supercontinents following a quasi-periodic cycle since the origin of tectonics. This session will review the tectonic evolution of supercontinents from amalgamation to break up at every level of Earth's structure, from the better known example of Pangea to the older and intriguing Archean supercontinents. We expect a multidisciplinary session involving geology, geophysics and geochemistry.
Invited Speakers:
Damian Nance – Ohio University
Peter Cawood – St Andrews University
Kent Condie - New Mexico Tech
Sponsors:
GSA Structural Geology and Tectonics Division; IGCP 597—Amalgamation and Breakup of Pangaea: The Type Example of the Supercontinent Cycle
Thank you, and we hope to see you in Vancouver!
Sincerely,
Daniel Pastor Galán (Utrecht University), J. Brendan Murphy (St. Francis Xavier University), William Collins (Newcastle University)
