Hello
I see quite a few patients who have a high total cholesterol but a low
cholesterol to HDL ratio. eg latest patient
61 year old female
Total cholesterol = 7.7 mmol/L
HDL cholesterol = 2.84 mmol/L
LDL cholesterol = 4.5 mmol/L
No family history of CVD, diet = good. Nil of note on examination.
QRISK2 = 7%
Should the patient be treated with a statin on the basis of the
elevated total cholesterol alone?
Many thanks
Rob
