CONFERENCE
Every Researcher Counts - Protected Characteristics and Researchers in Scotland
26 June, Edinburgh
Vitae are pleased to announce the next conference in our Every Researcher Counts series. This conference will offer an overview of Equality and Diversity in Scottish research careers today. the programme will cover sector drivers behind this important topic, including the Concordat, RCUK statement of expectations, Athena Swan and the Race Charter Mark. Speakers will represent ECU, RCUK, SFC and Stonewall.
The conference will also present case study examples from Scottish institutions examining how they are addressing this agenda. Participants will reflect on the impact that they can make in their institution and have the opportunity to network and make local links to continue to address this issue in the future. They will receive an update on the Every Researcher Counts materials, discuss how to embed them at their institution and receive a draft copy of the newly developed information sheets to accompany the scenarios and research staff resource.

How can we support researchers, ensuring an equality of professional development for all, in light of the changing structures for doctoral education, such as doctoral training centres?
Join us on the 19 June to share your experiences and identify collaborative and innovative ways to help researchers manage their careers within a complex and changing landscape of choice and opportunity.
Funding is increasingly focusing on cohort approaches to doctoral training and the importance of individual career development planning, for example, in centres of doctoral training/doctoral training programmes. Challenges for institutions are the integration of these structures within the current research degree landscape such that they ensure an equality of provision for all.
This Vitae Open Space event is for all those who support researchers, such as funders, directors or administrators of doctoral centres or graduate schools, researcher development practitioners, and academics, including researchers themselves.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) UK competition
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition challenges doctoral candidates to present a compelling spoken presentation on their research topic and its significance to a non-specialist audience.
Vitae are proud to sponsor the 2nd UK national finals. We’ve had so many entries this year that winners from local competitions will go through to semi-finals at the University of York on July 14. Six finalists will present to another panel of judges at the Vitae national conference on September 9.
