*AOR2014 CALL FOR PAPERS*
The 5th Art of Research Conference: Experience, Materiality, Articulation
(AOR2014) will take place on 26-27 November 2014 at Aalto University,
School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Helsinki, Finland. The Conference
aims at sharing an understanding of the ontological, epistemological and
methodological issues of practice-led research, and offers an academic
framework for discussing notions of experience, materiality and

To facilitate inquiries on the themes of the Conference, we invite full
papers (5000 words max.) from doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers
and academics, on the full spectrum of practice-led research today.
Additionally, there will be three special tracks which link to and
highlight the conference themes, as follows:
- Embodiment and Reflection in Making Process;
- Performativity and Narrative in Artistic Practice;
- Material Experimentation and Personalization
Please indicate the chosen track while submitting the paper. If your
submission does not exactly fit in any of these tracks please indicate –
"General Track".

All contributions will be double-blind peer reviewed. To facilitate the
review process, authors should make an effort to ensure that their identity
is not revealed by information contained in their submission. The review
notice and referee feedback will be given on 31 August 2014. Please check

Submissions are to be made through emailing to [log in to unmask],
by 8 June 2014 (extended deadline). All authors who have submitted a paper
will receive notification from the conference coordinator Svetlana Usenyuk
within a week from the day of submission.
UPDATES: Journal collaboration and pre-conference workshop
1) We are pleased to announce our partnership with the journal Studies in
Material Thinking (http://www.materialthinking.org). The journal will
publish a post-conference collection of selected research papers. The aim
of this volume is to further the contemporary discourse regarding notions
of practice-led research and to discover how contemporary practitioners
bring into play the relationship between their art and design practices and
the emergence of new knowledge. Full announcement is available at

2) We offer an opportunity to make the most of your experience at the AOR
2014 Conference and attend our pre-conference workshop on 25 November
organized in collaboration with Ruukku journal (http://ruukku-journal.fi).
During this intensive full-day workshop participants will consider what is
a research exposition, acquaint themselves with various types of artistic
research expositions and explore strategies for publishing a presentation
of their research on a multimedia platform. Please note that the workshop
