“E-portfolios are used more and more frequently in foreign language teaching and learning. Depending on curricular requirements, portfolios allow users to design, select, create, share and display pieces of work; at the same time, they foster the development of capabilities such as autonomy and reflective practice which are prerequisites for responsible life-long learning.
At the University of Leipzig Language Centre the e-portfolio software Mahara has been introduced to support and enhance students’ learning processes.
Mahara provides flexible, accessible and versatile tools, enabling users to create either personal or collective portfolios. It complements Moodle, yet lends itself to be used as a stand-alone feature in most settings.
In this workshop, examples of how Mahara is being used in different learning scenarios will be presented. We will be looking at the kind of conditions and parameters that are essential to implement portfolio work successfully in the curriculum.”
