I thought I'd better pass this one on.

Dear Colleagues,
Yesterday, the University of London announced plans to re-structure its
research institutes following funding cuts from HEFCE.
It is proposed that the Institute of Modern Languages Research (recently
re-branded from the IGRS), be merged with the Institute of English
Studies and the Institute of Historical Research to form an Institute of
Comparative Literature.

There is much anger from the English community about this and a campaign
group is being organised by Anne Varty, Head of English at Royal
Holloway ([log in to unmask]). But these decisions also have worrying
implications for Modern Languages.
Please spread the word and encourage Heads of Departments and Subject
Groups to do the same.
