medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Med-Rel colleagues,
This may seem a hopelessly basic inquiry, but please indulge me, as I've no idea how to find an answer. I'm working on a project involving very, very small "villages" in early 15th-century Italy; some of these villages are clusters of just 15 or 20 families, some are as "large" as 60 or so families. I'm wondering how small a village would have its own church and priest--it seems unlikely that the smallest of these would, but I really have no idea. And for those villages that didn't have a church/pries, how did religious practice (baptisms, last rites, etc.) work?
Thanks for any answers or suggestions of where to look,
Lois Leveen, Ph.D.
