Dear collective,
Does anybody know of a lab that can measure zinc transporter 8 antibodies?
I have had a call from one of our diabetologists who has a male patient in his early 40s who was diagnosed with T1DM a couple of years ago (high blood glucose, weight loss, ketonuria and positive anti-GAD abs). However, he has been off insulin for 2 years and has perfect glucose control.
The patient is well educated and is asking for zinc transporter 8 antibodies to be measured.
I think that his glucose control is probably due to a strict low carbohydrate diet and doubt that the zinc transporter 8 abs are going to add much as his anti-GAD abs are already positive, however, I have told him that the he is welcome to pay for it to be done privately and that I would find out what the sample requirements and test costs are. I have also advised urine c-peptide.
Thanks in advance,
