There are mines where an ore body is entirely stratabound, and the mining community will still refer to the stratigraphic unit that is physically above the ore-bearing unit as the "hanging wall" (regardless of younging direction, if it is even known). This certainly happens in some salt mines. I suspect "stratigraphic" may have been added in an attempt to clarify that no fault is involved, while preserving the local mine terminology.
