Sweden)<http://designcalls.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/11th-ieee-intl-workshop-on-software-cybernetics-july-2014-sweden/>

FEBRUARY 28, 2014

Deadline for submissions: 23 March 2014

Hheld in conjunction with COMPSAC'14.

*GOAL of the WORKSHOP*
With the advent of new computing paradigms, communication and control
technologies, software systems are required to be more and more autonomic,
collaborative, self-adaptive and evolutionary. The sustainability of
software product and the quality of delivered services imposes greater
impact to the various perspectives of people's economic activities,
scientific research and social life. In particular, when software services
and systems are operating in an open and volatile environment, such as the
Internet. In order to make software work as expected in a dynamic
environment with constantly changing user requirements, the software must
be aware of the changes, and be adaptive according to the external input
and the feedback of the application system.

This full-day workshop will bring together researchers and designers who
share an interest in understanding the challenges of how to design for
repurposing of interactive tangible objects by children. We invite people
who are interested in exploring the field of repurposing by children, or
are currently engaged in research related to this topic. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to: what is repurposing and how can it be
exemplified; how to design interactive tangible objects that can be
repurposed and how can children be supported in this; and which application
and/or activity areas can be of interest for repurposing.

FEBRUARY 20, 2014

Dates: 3 to 5 July 2014
Location: Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU, Hong Kong
Website:
experiencedesign.hk/call-for-abstracts-designing-experience-the-power-of-context/
Deadline for abstracts: 28 March 2014 (400 words)

We wish to invite professionals and academics with an interdisiplinary
approach to design to join us in exchanging, comparing, reviewing and
publishing current practice and ideas in Experience Design at the
international, interdisciplinary conference:

*Designing Experience: The Power of
Context*<http://experiencedesign.hk/international-conference/>
Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong, July 2014

For this purpose we now invite submissions of abstracts for international
peer review. Submissions should be of no more than 400 words in English,
and reveal significant, original or previously unpublished academic
research, professional/practical case studies or more experimental formats
that respond to, or take further the following issues:

- As experience blurs object with context, where are the contextual
boundaries for designing?
- How is empirical evidence for the role of context in designing experience
best presented?
- Is experience design a 'discipline' or a general condition for all
current design practice?
- Can the social value, as well as the economic impact of experience design
be quantified?
- Is there a distinctive aesthetics of physical or virtual experience
design?
- If Experience Design is interdisciplinary, which disciplines does it
include - or exclude?
- Which examples and texts are core to a contemporary understanding of
Experience Design?
- Is Experience Design a new phenomenon, or does it open an extensive
history?
- What are the emerging ethical issues in Experience Design practice?
- Is 'co-creation' key to the future development of Experience Design?
- How does the focus on experience redefine reductive design terms such as
'the user'?

Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their full papers
or presentations at the Designing Experience
conference<http://experiencedesign.hk/international-conference/> in
July 2014 in Hong Kong, and will subsequently be considered for publication
in conference proceedings or as chapters of an edited volume.

*Deadline for submission of abstracts is 28 March 2014.* Abstracts,
together with relevant personal information, should be submitted via
this submission
link <http://experiencedesign.hk/abstract-submission-the-power-of-context/>.
Announcements of the shortlisted papers for the conference will begin on 2
May 2014. Softcopies of the final full papers need to be submitted to the
conference's Programme Committee by 27 June 2014.

We welcome your questions about this event, and look forward to you joining
our collective discussions in Hong Kong, which we hope will pave the way
for a regular event on the international design calendar.

Aimed at makers and researchers of all shapes and codes including hackers,
crafters, inventors, designers, economists, curators and critical
theorists, this two day conference will explore craft values, traditional
making processes and novel forms of engagement, participation and
interaction in digital and material cultures.

There are three broad themes we wish to explore:Materiality and
Aesthetics, Enhancing the Object and Democratising Technology. More
information on these and the conference exhibition and workshop
opportunities can be found on the conference

The *ARPA Journal* is an online, public forum for debates on applied
research practices in architecture based at the Columbia University
Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation
(GSAPP)<http://www.arch.columbia.edu/>.
We scrutinize techniques of inquiry to examine their ethical stance and
spark ideas for their potential transformation. If the term applied
research conventionally describes a practice adulterated by practical
concern or funding bias, the journal asks how research can embrace its
entangled nature, and experiment with the very problem of autonomy in
application.

The inaugural issue, *Test Subjects*, focuses on the contested nature of
application in research. Abstracts accepted on a rotating basis until *March
1, 2014*. Selected contributions will be due *April 1, 2014. *Please visit

Service economy plays a critical role in the current world economic
development. The ratio of service value to GDP has become a key index to
identify one country's economic development and performance. Companies have
to strengthen service innovation and design in their business models in
order to increase their competitiveness. Service design is a strategic
approach that helps providers to develop a clear strategic positioning for
their service offerings. In light of these challenges and opportunities,
the 6th ICSSI aims to explore service innovation and design under
multi-culture. This conference features 8 tracks. Academics and researchers
are more than welcome to contribute to ICSSI.
