Hi Jess
I would certainly produce a quick survey to ask current visitors if they wanted/expected wifi and if so to do what.
Here at Bristol Museums service I know for a fact that a small percentage of visitors come to use the wifi AND grab a coffee at the same time. I think wifi is one of those things people who like to use it just expect it (but can live without), a bit like toilets.... except wifi is more important ha!
I'd also suggest that you configure wifi points to capture daily amount of connections to get an idea of usage.... something we currently cannot do ourselves
Good luck

Subject: [MCG] Wi-Fi increasing visitors/income
Hi All,
Question for those who have introduced public Wi-Fi in their museums, I wonder if you can share any insights/statistics on how it has increased your visitor numbers, visitor dwell time or visitor spend?
We're currently negotiating for funding to install more Wi-Fi access points in our public spaces to facilitate the delivery of public access Wi-Fi and have been asked for some more insights into how public Wi-Fi might impact on visitors and income - some insights from museums that have been there would be very useful.
Thanks so much!
Jess
