Dear all,
We have an Eritrean client who has recently been rejected by UNHCR in Hong Kong on credibility and we would like your assistance or comments on the following questions:
1. Procedures on obtaining Eritrean national ID card:
- The normal procedures according to COI are that everyone applying for ID card needs to bring 3 witnesses who are Eritrean nationals to prove their nationality and it takes 2-4 weeks to obtain the card; Are there any expedited procedures for Eritreans who apply in Eritrea and whose parents are both Eritrean nationals and their names are already in a "family register"?
2. Evasion of military service
- Have you come across cases where Eritrean clients have been able to evade military service for up to years, also having been in and out of prison during that period for religious reasons? Would it help that the client for example does not have an official ID card and/or possesses a card that indicates he/she is a student, making it more likely that he/she would be out of the radar?
If you have any useful information in response to the following questions, we would greatly appreciate your assistance. Please contact me at [log in to unmask]
Many thanks!
