Here at Bradford we are considering a similar issue.
Some years ago we decided to only allow access to Blackboard modules for the current academic year and the previous academic year (e.g. 2013-14 & 2012-13). However, in practice we have not had the time to un-enrol staff / students and archive the old modules, so everyone has kept their access to past Blackboard modules since 2009-10.
We have had a request from one School for students to have access to all the modules for the life of their programme as it is based on a 'spiral curriculum' model and students need to refer back to previous modules. This is a popular request. Our programmes are 3, 4 or 5 years long so this represents a large number of modules! Plus we have a lot of redundant modules in the system.
We would like a solution that doesn't adversely impact on the live service.
I wondered if there was a way we could have 2 installations without needing more licences: one for the current modules and one for old modules. Maybe utilising domains, institutional hierarchies or different URLs?
Has anyone set up anything like this?
