The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint an outstanding scholar with an international reputation in the field of Medieval Studies, with specialism in Medieval English Literature. The successful applicant will be based in the Department of English and will join the active, research-intensive environment of the School of Humanities and Faculty of Arts. He or she will be expected in due course to assume a leadership role as Director of the well-established interdisciplinary Centre for Medieval Studies.
It is expected that the successful applicant will take up the post in September 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applications are invited from scholars who work on any aspect of Medieval English Literature (including Old English) and who have the following qualities:
- a proven record of interdisciplinary research (as demonstrated both by publications and by other contributions to the field) and the ability to foster such research;
- a strong track record in, and commitment to, the making of applications for external funding and supporting other staff involved in funded projects;
- leadership skills in senior academic management;
- the ability to attract research students, and to offer outstanding teaching at undergraduate and MA level.
Salary: (Grade M) to be agreed on appointment.

Shortlisting will take place in March and shortlisted candidates will be invited to give a presentation to staff and postgraduates from the Department and Faculty of Arts, prior to formal interview. It is anticipated that presentations and interview will be held towards the end of April 2014.
