You say "SPARQL only": what other formats would you ideally want to see?
My experience with setting up "web termlists" (e.g. [1] for AAT) leads
me to believe that SPARQL is a perfectly adequate "API" for
machine-processible data. HTTP request; XML response - what's not to
like? Do others agree?
Having said that, I can see the potential benefit of middleware which
builds on resources like AAT, and offers, for example, a higher-level
view of SKOS-conformant resources which supports query expansion,
termlist pooling, etc. However, such middleware could be built on the
SPARQL interface - it doesn't require a separate API.
BTW, a brief scan of the licence summary suggests that simply using an
AAT URL counts as conformance, so that should nicely cover the Linked
Data usage of AAT:
