Dear M
Understood : )
Revulsion and attraction are seen by some tantrik neopagans as "kleshas" -
psychological faults that are the result of conditioning and ignorance.
Although i wonder if you have any thoughts on the
historical/mythically aspect, the hermaphrodite/shape shifter as
something that was unsettling
and this is perhaps a source of
magical power? The mythology points to the fact that someone who
transcends gender boundaries will be
"disturbing" and therefore we shouldn't be too surprised if some people
are disturbed?
Calling something a phobia as in homophobia acknowledges that the
feelings are real although can be talked through and need not
lead to a violent or antisocial response (as in queer bashing)?
I'd say racism is different because a because races are fictional and
racist feelings are not natural but have to be
constructed culturally?
