To all musicologists with an interest in digital methods and tools.
I would like your help with the following.
At the last ISMIR (International Society for Music Information
Retrieval) conference in November 2013 I chaired a short session
entitled Digital Musicology and Music Information Retrieval. We had a
very lively discussion, but one of the principal aims of the session
wasn't really addressed.
This was to discuss what the current technical needs of the music
research communities are. How could these be translated into research
challenges that we could hope to see solutions for in the next few ISMIR
conferences?
To make up for this I have created a very short questionnaire:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1pqFOwy3tOf8fTycqAoj4jjzCXB7Oeo6jNm7m3uncuBg/viewform
It contains eight questions in total. Among these are two questions
about open problems in Digital Musicology; another one is specifically
about 'Grand Challenges' for Music Information Retrieval. Your answers
will also help to focus future activities of the International
Musicological Society Study Group on Digital Musicology.
I hope you will find some time to think about these questions and
provide me with feedback. Feel free to forward this message to anyone
who might be interested.
Many thanks,
Frans Wiering
Chair of the IMS Study Group on Digital Musicology
