AHRC PhD Funding Opportunities in Music at the University of Manchester
The Department of Music, part of the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at The University of Manchester, is pleased to invite applications for PhD studentships through its involvement in the North West Consortium (NWC) funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
We welcome applications from outstanding students in the following areas:
- PhD Music
- PhD Musicology
- PhD Composition
- PhD Electroacoustic Composition
Music at Manchester, ranked second in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and rated the top music department in the UK by the Sunday Times and the Complete University Guide, has a long-standing track record of outstanding postgraduate achievement; many of its graduates have gone on to posts at prestigious institutions of higher education or in the music industry. To find out more about our research culture, see http://www.alc.manchester.ac.uk/subjects/music/research/ourresearchculture/
NWC PhDs will be active partners in shaping their own training and development as researchers and future leaders. They will enjoy access to outstanding resources (such as the NOVARS Research Centre for Electracoustic Composition) and training provision within a collegial environment supporting them to produce excellent research, contribute to a world class research environment and engage in mutually beneficial knowledge exchange relationships. Students specialising in the above areas will benefit from shared training and collaborations with music staff and students at the consortium partner institutions, for example through an annual postgraduate symposium or the New Music North-West Festival.
The deadline for submitting AHRC funding applications is 5pm on Friday 21 February 2014. Please visit the School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures funding page for the application form and guidance.
You are advised to submit your online application for a place on your chosen PhD programme by Friday 31 January 2014. This will ensure that you are in receipt of an offer of a place on your chosen PhD programme in advance of the AHRC deadline.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by 14th April 2014.
