medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Jaklin's thanks may be ironic-- she sent me a photo, and I never got
back to her. Profuse apologies, Jaklin!
Dionysius of Paris (Saint Denis) is normally shown holding his own head,
not holding another bishop. (For those who did not ask for the photo, it
shows a half-length bishop in full regalia holding a book in his right
hand and cradling another bishop in full regalia, dead or sleeping,
shown recumbent in half-length, with his other arm.) Could you tell us
how you were able to identify him here?
again, apologies,
Genevra
