I’d guess (with no research whatsoever to back it up) that almost everyone now knows what a QR code is, and probably a high percentage know what they do. But still, you need an app and I’d guess most people don’t - and that’s a hassle for all concerned, unless your incentives and the fluidity with which you can get the app to people are good enough. Which - as Derek points out, even with in-house wifi isn’t a done deal.
But - a lot of this could also be about incentives. Maybe people don’t actually *want* further information about our exhibits…? Be interesting to hear from people who have used tech other than QR to do this - and PROVIDING THEY’RE TRACKING STUFF - what the up-take has been…

ps. The QR popularity thing would all turn 180 degrees of course if iOS or Android decided that their in-built camera apps should automatically look for codes when you took a picture.... But - I suspect their aims are somewhere else - BLE, NFC, that stuff..
pps. thinking that it’d be reasonably easy to find out number of downloads for all QR apps in both iOS and Google Play stores and then work out a ballpark % of people who have them installed. Maybe. If you had time...
