Hello Alun,
I did some prototyping a couple of years ago for Grand Palais in Paris on
that matter.
QR codes are cryptic for the people.
It's not necessarily a bad thing : QR code are just questions marks or
riddle you could decipher with a phone. Seen this way, it could be quite a
good gameplay element.
Same as always : if you create the sufficient tension, teasing, people will
be hooked and will try to decipher the QR code. But if it's there without
context or clue to it's purpose, a good chance people will ignore it.
One thing we tried to do at Grand Palais was to use QR code the other way
around. People would have a QR code on their ticket, and thanks to that,
they would be able to interact with QR readers next to the paintings. The
same QR code on your ticket allowing you to retrieve (via your phone after
the visit) information around paintings you liked.
It was just a quick prototype, we never built the real thing.
regards,
François Alliot
