Dear Francesco!
There must be a lot of palaeontological literature, because this is a
"cult" species for people working in the middle/upper pleistocene,
producing an uneasy feeling when identifying canids. I don't know for
certain about metapodials and phalanges. I remember an old monograph by
Stehlin (including distal limbs), finds from the Pais Vasco etc. Contact
Olaf Jöris from RGZM Monrepos/Neuwied (Germany), he worked about
Cuon-determination in his dissertation, and also Florian Fladerer,
<[log in to unmask]> he succeeded to track down one specimen.
My diploma-thesis would-be Cuon astragalus turned out to be an aberrant
wolf.
all best wishes
Karl
