This would probably have come as a surprise to Cuthbert, and also to
Bede - who doesn't mention it. I rather suspect that, like so much else,
it is an invention of Simeon of Durham.

The Galilee was originally erected at the east end and taken down and
re-erected at the west end. If you look closely at the columns, you can
see that they have been re-assembled incorrectly.
