I am pleased to announce the publication of the revised (and expanded)
edition of "*Design of Everyday Things*."
It is available in paperback. The eBook version is expected Real Soon Now
(Amazon says Nov. 5: my publisher says R.S.N.). and electronic book
format. (In theory the eBook has color diagrams, but I haven't seen it yet
myself.)
And at non-predatory prices (roughly US $10, paper or electronic).
Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese translations are in
progress.
Published by Basic Books/Perseus except in the UK, where it is published by
MIT Press.
What has changed from the earlier book? A lot. The
preface<http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/preface_design_of_e.html>explains
why the book was revised and then, chapter by chapter, what has
changed. Summary: The world has changed a lot in the 25 years since the
book was written. I have learned a lot. So the science is unchanged (except
for the addition of "signifiers," but the examples are completely new, as
is the understanding of how these ideas get implemented. The last two
chapters are completely new. For details read the preface. (Click on the
link above or just below.)

Readers of this list will note that many of the new ideas in the book were
first tried out here. Thanks to al of you who helped improve them.
