*POSITION DESCRIPTION: *The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech
seeks applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track
faculty position in Visual Communication Design (VCD) with a specialization
in graphic and interactive design. SOVA is housed within the College of
Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech, a comprehensive land grant
research university. SOVA has approximately 275 undergraduate majors,
within three areas (VCD, Studio Arts and Art History). VCD has between 55
and 80 students. The school also offers an MFA in Creative Technologies, an
MA in Material Culture and Public Humanities, and an individualized Ph.D.
in Human-Centered Design. Information can be found at:

*SALARY*: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
*ANTICIPATED START:* August, 2014.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:*
• normal 2/2 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses from
beginning to advanced levels
• maintain a strong national/international creative research agenda
• maintain an up-to-date proficiency with digital tools and software
packages
as it relates to teaching and creative research in interactive design
(e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, iOS, Android, web design, gaming, etc.) •
school, college and university level service and outreach
• student advising and curriculum development in the VCD program
• contributions to the growth of our graduate programs by dynamic
*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
• terminal professional degree (M.F.A. or equivalent)
• record of excellence in one or more of the following areas: web design;
application
development; motion graphics; e-publication design; graphic or visual
design; and
interactive media
• broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art and design
practice and
theory relating to Visual Communication Design
• proven ability to teach core VCD courses including Intro/Intermediate
Graphic
Design 1/2 and E-Portfolio/Senior Year.
• demonstrated ability to teach additional courses depending on area of
specialization (including Intro and Intermediate Web Design, App Design,
Motion Graphics, and/or E-Publication etc.)
*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*
• proven academic leadership experience
• qualifications for appointment at the Associate Professor level •
industry experience.
