Salary: £42,043 to £48,129 per annum
Closing Date: Wednesday 13 November 2013

The NHS is going through a major reform. Providing information on all
aspects of health care is seen as the key to providing better services
and improving patient outcomes. As a result, there is a growing need
for robust measures to describe the activities and performance of health
care providers, both in terms of clinical indicators and
patient-reported outcome measures.
We are seeking an enthusiastic senior health services researcher who
can manage large-scale health care evaluation projects and contribute to
the methodological development of health care performance measures.
Applicants should have excellent quantitative skills and extensive
experience of research or national clinical audit / service evaluation.
The post provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to
develop a major research programme focused on the development and
improvement of quantitative methods for assessing the quality of health
care. This would be achieved by leading or participating in a number of
large-scale epidemiological studies of the quality of care in the UK.
The studies will be focussed primarily on surgery but they may extend
into other areas of health care given the multi-disciplinary nature of
clinical care. Each study will present methodological challenges such
as: the risk adjustment of observational data, continuous monitoring of
outcomes, record linkage, and the use of administrative health data.
The posts will be based in the Clinical Effectiveness Unit, a
collaboration between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
and The Royal College of Surgeons of England. You will be part of a
multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians who play a leading
role both nationally and internationally in shaping and guiding
large-scale evaluations of health care performance.
The posts are offered initially for a fixed period of three years.
Starting salary is on the Academic Pathway Grade 7 (£42,043 - £48,129 pa
including London weighting). The appointment will be subject to the
LSHTM terms and conditions.
Applications should be made on-line via our website at
http://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk The reference for this post is HSRP1.
Applications should also include a CV and the names and email contacts
of 2 referees who can be contacted immediately if shortlisted. Closing
