Subject: Re: [ZOOARCH] Uses for sheep metapodials
Thanks for all the responses, I did find a paper online with a plausible explanation. It seems that sheep metapodials have been used in this area to fix split-stone tiled roofs. They were known as "trotter roofs" or "sheep-shank roofs". The paper is at http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archives/archiveDownload?t=arch-352-1/dissemination/pdf/vol_014/14_180_181.pdf but no reference is given.
