The Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT and the Department of Computer Science are looking for a skilled

DOCTORAL STUDENT

The position is initially offered for four years with a 4-month trial period.

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki welcomes applications for a doctoral student in Human-Computer Interaction in particular: 
1) Multimodal Interaction, for example gesture, touch, eye gaze 
2) Mobile urban Augmented Reality for Cultural Access 
3) Interactive Visualisation for Exploratory Search. 

The student will be working on a long-term project with Professor Giulio Jacucci, as part of the Ubiquitous Interaction (UIx) group (http://www.hiit.fi/uix).

Successful applicants should have a Master's degree or equivalent qualification in computer science or other related field and demonstrate strong skills in either programming, scientific work, or design.

The starting salary in PhD Positions follows the guidelines of Finnish universities (level 2), and the salary increases as the PhD work progress and includes healthcare benefits.

The Department of Computer Science (http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/) at the University of Helsinki is the leading Finnish research and education institute in its field. The Department's research and teaching focus on 1) algorithms and machine learning, 2) networks and services as well as 3) software systems. The Department has three Finnish centres of excellence funded by the Academy of Finland and cooperates closely in research projects with the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. The Department is also one of ten Finnish centres of excellence in university education. The Department has a staff of 170 and an overall budget of EUR 11 million. Its research infrastructure is excellent, including its own 1960-core computing cluster.
