Hi Elaine
When we are submitting results in June, we email Edexcel/Pearson with the details of students who have improved their grades, these improved marks then count towards their new qualification.
For example if a student on the Extended Diploma has improved on a unit in the 90 Credit Diploma, we would email service operations (generally we would send a spreadsheet) with their name, BTEC registration number, unit number and new grade. Edexcel will amend this grade and the improved grade will count towards the Extended Diploma, but they will not receive a new overall grade for the 90 Credit Diploma.
I hope that makes sense. I suggest you email your account specialist at Edexcel for further clarification.

Hi All
Dragging this one up again, Janet - please can you clarify what you meant below - are you able to reopen units from the 90-credit Diploma in order to improve grades, and if so, how do you do this?
thanks

Hi
I agree, we have a lot of top ups and students improved grades only count towards their topped up qualification. We explain this to the students, and we do not return any certificates for the previous BTEC. They will receive a notification of performance along with the certificate for their topped up qualification which will show also show the improved units. I was informed by EDEXCEL/Pearson that all that was necessary was an email to service operations with the details of the improved units. To my knowledge we have never been charged for this.

My understanding is the same as Lauren's. This coming year we will be asking for the top-up to the higher award for those students who progress onto the second year, asking for the Certificate units to be upgraded where appropriate, and I don't expect the Certificate certificates to be requested back!

Hi Nikki,
We run a mixture of BTEC course, some of which are cashed in oafter one year (cert/subsid. Diploma) and others run the full two year programme (ext dip./dip).
On the courses which run for 1 year and top-up for their second year we are always charged a top up fee of around £35-£45 per student. However the certificate is never returned. Any units the students decide to improve on only contribute to their new qualification, not the one they have completed.
Hope this helps,
Lauren

With a few exceptions we never 'cash in' as many/most will be progressing on to the extended. This saves this hassle plus the transfer fee is cheaper than the top up fee.

Subject: BTEC Unit Upgrades
Hello
I was wondering if anyone can help.
With regards to BTEC our college always claims for students after the first year (usually the Sub Dip) and then tops them up in the 2nd year to either the Dip or Extended Dip.
We have always given the students the opportunity to upgrade the modules they have completed in the 1st year to gain a better 2nd year qualification.
We have never had any problems doing this and just sent a spreadsheet to Edexcel and they have upgraded the units.
I have just rang them this morning and they have informed me that if I want to do this it will cost me £37 per student as they have already certificated for the lower qualification.
Has anyone else had this information or had any problems with this. This has never happened to us before even though the woman at service operations says this has always been the case.
Also she said I had to send all the certificates back for these students for their 1st year qualification even though last year they informed us that the upgrades will only be attributed to the higher qualification.
Any help would be great
Thanks
