Dear Gunnar,
This has been an interesting conversation for me. I was not so much taking you to task as raising queries and challenges.
The nature of such conversations is that it is sometimes difficult to write well on challenging issues. I find that I have to review books that I may not have examined for a few years, find articles long unread, and the like.
At this point, the topic is so challenging that it is best for me to withdraw, for the time being at least. A couple projects that have been heating up, and – to rephrase Harry Truman’s famous motto – I must get into the kitchen.
I expect to be in lurk mode for a few months. (I will eventually post two posts from conversations that I have neither forgotten nor neglected.) For the rest, I will maintain silence unless I can contribute a short, factual answer.
This has been an invigorating conversation. Thanks to you for bringing up David Ricardo, and thanks to Terry for bringing up Ronald Coase.
And now the stove is calling as the kitchen heats up.
Yours,
Ken

Ken rightly took me to task for a too-vague use of the word “specialization.” Since my focus on this topic is still pretty lose, I’ll add to my vagueness.
