EARLY NOTICE - Sat 23 November Speak Up For Libraries conference
(Library Campaign, CILIP, Unison, Voices for the Library) at CILIP HQ,
AIMS TO BE A SORT-OUT OF THE RELEVANT BODIES, TO SEE THAT THINGS THAT
NEED DOING IN FUTURE GET DONE!!
I never suggested lobbying individual councils (though, do you
remember, CILIP once did do reports on library plans that were
referred to it... does it still, I wonder?)
Library users often find themselves being asked to say things that
local staff dare not say themselves. And I would argue that a
professional association ought to be able to do the same thing.
More to the point, it ought to be out there explaining what
professional staff do, to the world in general. And providing some
tools for local managers to do the same (both CILIP & The Reading
Agency have done this kind of thing in the past). As Philip says.
