I suspect this is all an attempt at a slightly disingenuous linguistic
sleight of hand (sorry for the mixed metaphor). Prof Reynolds Humpty Dumpty

Yes, certainly, they are forms of radiation, but the original RIAs used
ionising radiation. Light in the visible range from chemiluminescent methods
is not ionising, and personally I think that is where the distinction lies.
As for the method change and pricing, well, arguably that is just a business
model ;-)
In our group, most of the work is by ELISAs now. Perhaps, given that so many
of these are photometric, could they be rebranded SRIAs (subtractive RIAs)
by a similar process? I do hope not...
