Dear Don,
I take heart from your many examples of folks who inhabit spaces where
things get done.
I am a little conceded with the quick flush idea of adding value.
I like the idea of adding value - but I think we need to look at
valorisation in itself - something that gets very little attention in
Western design circles.
Values and more?
Transvaluation? - Tony Fry's new book: Becoming Human by Design is worth
an attentive look.
And then, to go French - it is a deep shame that our global design
community is NOT global - see
http://www.via.fr/
Valorisation de l'Innovation dans l'Ameublement / Valorisation of
Innovative Furniture
I very much enjoy their publication which came out at the turn of the
century:
ET SI ON REMETTAIT LES COMPTEURS A ZERO
HYPOTHESES POUR DES FUTURS PROBABLES
What If We Put the Clocks Back to Zero: Hypotheses for Probable Futures
Sophie Tasma-Anargyros and Frédéric Loeb: What if we put the clocks back
to zero? Hypotheses for probable futures, Paris 1998, Les éditions de
l'imprimeur, ISBN 2-910735-17-6, 207 pages
The VIA promotes creation in furniture conception in France and abroad.
For further French design ideas maybe start with:

Cheers
Keith - who designs values - sometimes.
