On Feb 7-8, 2014, the Program in Moving Image Studies at GSU will host the second Rendering (the) Visible Conference, on the theme of "Figure." One of our keynote speakers will be Pasi Väliaho, author of Mapping the Moving Image (Amsterdam UP); the second keynote speaker will be announced shortly.
The conference series "Rendering (the) Visible" is committed to exploring new theoretical formations that enable a greater understanding of the moving image (and sound), especially as they are being continually reconfigured by new technologies and modes of apprehension. The conference title comes from Paul Klee (as channeled by Deleuze): "...it is not a matter of reproducing or inventing forms, but of capturing forces. . . the attempt to render visible forces that are not themselves visible."
Our inaugural conference in Feb 2011 brought together over 70 scholars from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australasia, and the Middle-East. In order to facilitate a spirit of intellectual investigation and adventure, we try to structure the conference with a minimum of competing panels, to enable participants to explore ideas in an open and engaged environment.
For information on this year's conference theme ("Figure"), please visit our website http://movingimagestudies.com/. There you will also find instructions for proposal submission, due Sept 20, 2013.
