Dear all,
I have just come across a slightly puzzling set of results in a healthy 27 y/o male from primary care:
Adjusted calcium 1.50 mmol/L
Phosphate 8.3 mmol/L
No UE results available, LFTs all well within the normal range. No FBC sample.
Unfortunately the sample has been discarded so can't be re-analysed but a repeat from today showed a normal calcium and only marginally elevated phosphate of 1.6, normal renal function. Vitamin D was also normal on a previous sample.
Any ideas of interfering substances or other spurious causes of hypocalcaemia combined with hyperphosphataemia?
Thanks
